CWD has launched its first saddle designed especially for the female morphology, far from all vain discussions on gender theory. The result is a lighter, slimmer saddle adapted to the female pelvis for ever greater performance. The low down on 2Gs Mademoiselle.
Innovation with a feminine touch
Take a 2Gs® saddle. Spend months poring over it in the CWD TECHNOLOGY Laboratory, revising every detail with women in mind, especially the Dynamick® saddle tree. Focus on the comfort of the seat. Continue working, weighing-up, testing. Combine all this with the requirements of sustainable development and aesthetics customisation, a slim twist and easy girthing, and 2Gs Mademoiselle is at last ready to make a sensational entrance.
Relieving the pelvic area
In order to keep her spine straight, a woman has to tip her pelvis further forward than a man, thereby shifting her centre of gravity. She therefore sits further forward on her pubic bone which touches the saddle. This position can cause pain in the pubic symphysis. If the saddle is not padded at this level, female riders have to compensate by stooping to find their balance further back on the saddle. 2Gs Mademoiselle frees up the pelvis, making work all the easier. The U-shaped flat seat and use of foam at the front of the saddle and at ischial level perfectly espouse the female morphology to provide unbeatable comfort.
Dynamick®saddle tree for women
The injected carbon kevlar Dynamick® saddle tree that forms the backbone of the 2Gs saddle has been redesigned to perfectly espouse the female morphology. The performance of the 2Gs Mademoiselle rests in large part upon this light and strong, flexible framework.
In addition to improved comfort for the rider, thewide opening of the Dynamick® saddle tree frees the horse’s movement when jumping. Every element of the assembly (stirrup bars, seat etc) is inserted directly onto this framework. Contact is therefore at a maximum.
Why not train differently!
That’s precisely what the new connected 2Gs® saddle and its iJump app invite you to do.
By providing the rider with objective feedback on the sensations experienced when training or competing. Evaluating the quality of the horse’s canter and jump when approaching and landing, the regularity of strides, and the symmetry and impetus, not forgetting the speed, the height of the jumps, and especially the locomotive recovery after effort. Detailed, valuable indicators for measuring performance and progress with certitude.
The IoT has reached CWD
It’s official, the Internet of Things now features among the innovations offered by CWD TECHNOLOGY. The result of a lengthy development in partnership with our riders, the new 2Gs® is connected and will revolutionize training and analysis of competition videos. With the iJump app, the data gleaned from the saddle and transmitted via the Cloud to your tablet or smartphone, is analyzed as never before.
This enables highly pertinent variables (impetus, rhythm, speed, regularity, symmetry when jumping, etc) to be synchronized on video to show the horse’s performances.
And thanks to a dedicated web platform, all this information can be compared, to enable the progression of work and results to be assessed in an objective fashion. The revolution lies in the connection.
How does it work?
A robust, reliable electronic system is located in several areas of the saddle :
A sensor at pommel-level accurately measures the horse’s locomotion.
An antenna at cantle-level provides long-distance communication with the iJump app. An innovative system recharges the device thanks to optimized energy management.
A CWD algorithm analyses the horse’s locomotion by detecting occurrences and then calculating the significant parameters of the horse’s locomotion. Translating this data into real variables provides numerical data for the sensations experienced by riders by visualizing them on the app.
The iJump app : smart training just a swipe away.
The iJump app, available from the App Store, is a gem of precision and intuition. The app menu enables performances for several horses and riders to be displayed, point by point. After creating and personalizing the account, iJump also offers training advice, in addition to consultations and analyses of rounds. Retrieving and displaying work performances is straightforward.
Training has never been so smart.
Fully connected… or nearly
CWD is launching its connected mode at the 2016 Paris Horse Show, initially with the 2Gs® saddle and its iJump app for analyzing jumping performance. This will soon be followed by the
classic and dressage saddles with their iJump and iDress apps respectively. We ask you to just be a little patient…
Sharing research
LIM France has teamed up with a leading academic research unit, on a private/public partnership basis, to create new expertise with which to innovate within the field of equestrian performance and healthcare.
A program that we are proud to reveal to you here.
A unique project and partnership
CWD VetLab – the first shared laboratory combining a veterinary research unit and a business dedicated to equipment for sports horses and their riders – came into being with the help of the French National Research Agency (ANR). A joint venture along the lines of an economic cluster or innovation center, the strength of which is to bring together all those working within a given field to achieve the best results possible, whatever they may be.
An ongoing relationship
In previous issues of CWDers, we’ve mentioned the Maisons-Alfort Veterinary School (ENVA) near Paris, as well as the Centre of Imaging and Research on Equine Locomotor Affections (CIRALE), in Goustranville, Normandy. It’s with this Equine Biomechanics and Locomotor Pathologies unit that we had the opportunity of setting up the CWD VetLab.
LIM France already had a strong relationship with ENVA and CIRALE, strengthened in recent years by having overseen a number of Masters projects and a doctoral thesis conducted through a CIFRE industrial research agreement which were considered extremely successful at a scientific and innovative level. Outstanding among them was the Saddle In Motion project, which led to the iJump and CWD Connected Concept.
Shared values
The CWD VetLab aims to materialize and formalize a partnership that has existed for a number of years committed to shared values focusing on improving well-being and performance within the riding world. It affords a real opportunity to implement a strategy beneficial to all:
• Sharing resources as well as the costs and risks inherent in research
• An effective approach to recruitment that provides openings for doctoral graduates and a pool of specialists to handle problems encountered within a business context
• Acceleration of technology transfer.
A unifying theme: connected riding
The CWD VetLab calls upon an impressive trio of expertise, namely researchers in biomechanics, veterinary surgeons specialized in locomotor pathologies, and product designers
capable of transforming these skills into innovative products. The Dynamick® saddle tree for the 2Gs® saddle and the design of the 2Gs Mademoiselle are the direct result of this joint venture, as is the iJump. Tomorrow, it’s not only our saddles that will be connected, but also our boots and bridles. CWD VetLab is more than a strategy; it’s an outright conviction. And the only way forward, economically-speaking, as far as we are concerned.
Direct benefits for the equestrian sector
The measuring tools developed by the CWD VetLab will nurture, in a synergetic, complementary fashion, new clinical research projects within CIRALE, thereby helping develop new products respectful of the animal’s well-being. A bonus for all concerned within the sports horse sector.
And tomorrow?
LIM France’s internal Research and Development unit was created in 2005 by CWD. There are now 11 people in charge of 3D design, rapid prototyping by 3D printer, and computer-aided manufacturing thanks to two centers for machining and complex composite production. Command of the entire leather production chain allows us to design functional prototypes in our workshops as quickly as possible. The work of our doctoral graduate, Pauline Martin, in 2012, enabled us to give structure to this research hub. Subsequently, the company mastered the tools for measuring and analyzing movement and pressure. New approaches are developed every day and plans for research and innovation are forever growing.
You can count on the CWD VetLab to come up with something special for you to share real soon!
